Founded by William L. Gilbert The Gilbert School has a unique and compelling history that defines the American experience of an active businessman and entrepreneur who left a large portion of his estate to be used for the improvement of mankind. True to our motto “Committed to our Heritage- Focused on the Future” we are introducing an International Residency Program in 2013. The Gilbert School’s first building was dedicated on September 9, 1895. The present, larger facility at 200 Williams Avenue opened in 1959. The Gilbert School is a comprehensive independent middle-senior high school, grades 7-12, in Winsted, Connecticut. Set in the picturesque Litchfield Hills of Northwestern Connecticut, many prestigious institutions of higher learning are easily accessible. The Gilbert School is equidistant to Boston and New York City—and a half an hour from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport. An endowed town academy, Gilbert is fully accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The faculty at The Gilbert School is highly trained, certified through Connecticut’s State Department of Education in their discipline; over 85% have degrees beyond their Bachelors of Arts and Sciences. The staff is dedicated and takes great pride in cultivating and maintaining a successful learning environment. Both faculty and staff understand that teamwork is essential in providing educational opportunities for our students.
