The Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP) offers high school education to students around the world. Single semester and/or full year programs are available in over 90 junior and senior high schools. An ESL camp is offered in July and August. The NSISP accepts students from grades 4–12 (8–18 years old). International students can start their program in either September or February. High schools in all seven regional school boards accept international students. Students are matched with local families at their new schools. This is an ideal way to "live the lifestyle" firsthand. Each student is made to feel a part of the host family and is included in all celebrations, outings and activities. Students can choose from any number of extracurricular activities. Athletic pursuits include soccer, track and field, skiing, volleyball, and badminton. There are drama and music programs, student government, art and yearbook clubs. The ESL Summer Camp offers English instruction to students each weekday morning for three hours. Qualified ESL teachers lead the classes with each class being interactive to give students the opportunity to improve both verbal and written English. The ESL camp is held on a local university campus in city of Truro. Campus facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sports facilities, outdoor recreation space, dining room, and residence with common rooms.
